As an undeclared student coming into Umass my freshman year. I didn't really know what I wanted to do for a career when I got out of school originally. When I dropped one of my classes the first semester people said I should look into a sport management class because sports have always been something that interest me. While I was reluctant to take the class at first, it became one of the most important decisions I've made since I've come to this school. Dr. Lachowetz helped me in more ways than i ever could thank him for by building an interest for me in the sports industry. Because of his class I decided that I wanted to work in marketing in the sports industry. I realized that I had alot of good ideas for marketing sporting goods, and that I could be a valuable asset to any sport company.
Another important decision I've made since I came here was helping found the Umass chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon. While I never had any intentions of joining a fraternity when I got here originally, my fraternity has helped show me that it is possible to make a change if you put your mind to it. Our fraternity has helped change the perception of greek life on campus, and we do alot of work for the Amherst community. This has helped me decide that if I do eventually make it in life, I want to give back alot to the community to make sure that everyone has a chance to contribute to society. It has also shown me that marketing is involved in every aspect of life. As a new fraternity we had to market ourselves and our actions to the community in a way that would show that we want to give back to the community.
Another important decision I've made since coming to this campus was joining the marketing club. The marketing club has helped me obtain vital information on what it is like to work in the different parts of the marketing world. This has helped me decide on what I hope to do when I get out of college to get me on the right path towards being successful.
