I moved to Colorado for college with the hope of becoming a professional snowboarder or writing the next great American novel. I didn't accomplish either goal (at least not yet). However I did the next best thing: graduated with a degree in English. It was in college that I found a deep and lifelong love of learning and in graduate school that I discovered a deep curiosity regarding how we learn.
Professionally I help undergraduate, graduate, and professional students strategically navigate the complex landscape of higher education and assist them in reaching their goals of becoming the next generation of scholars, practitioners and leaders in their field.
As a learning consultant I work with students on an array of academic needs and issues from time management, academic reading to academic writing. I support students in developing tools for assessing the learning demands of their coursework and designing and implementing a course-specific strategic approach that will efficiently lead to persistence, deep learning and, as a result, high achievement.
I bring a socio-cultural perspective on literacies and learning to my practice. I have studied social reproduction along with issues of equity and access in education. I am interested in how students transition into and through the university and how particular institutions and teaching affect student learning. I am currently interested in exploring how students in the academic health sciences, including medical students, conceptualize themselves as learners and what practices they employ in their pursuit of high achievement.
