Brian Calfano is a seasoned journalist, professor, documentary filmmaker, and author with expertise in political and journalistic issues of the twentieth century. Throughout his career, he has significantly contributed to media and academia. He serves as the first scholar-in-residence at Latakoo, a video management company that provides solutions for major news outlets such as NBC Universal, Nexstar, and Charter Spectrum. He also holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Political Science at the University of North Texas.

Brian has worked in various roles in his journalism career, including anchor, political show host, reporter, and producer. He was an anchor and host at KSNT 27 News, providing political coverage across Kansas markets like Topeka, Wichita, and Kansas City. His work at Spectrum News 1 Ohio included producing and reporting on political and social topics, and he frequently appeared as a political analyst, offering on-air commentary during breaking news events.

During his time in Springfield, Missouri, Brian worked at KOLR10 as a producer and anchor. He contributed to several shows, including a special marking Missouri’s bicentennial and a series about the US Constitution. He also hosted “Morningline,” a public affairs radio show on News Talk 560AM KWTO, where he interviewed political figures and discussed important issues. He also served as a media panelist for congressional debates broadcast by KOLR10.

Brian’s documentary, Al Primo & His Eyewitness Revolution, which highlights the early days of television news, has earned significant praise. It won several prestigious awards, including Best Documentary at London's 2024 Golden Nugget International Film Festival. The documentary was selected for nationwide distribution on PBS stations.

Brian’s journalistic work has been recognized with numerous awards, including First Place in Education Issues Reporting from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists and nominations from the National Association of Television Arts & Sciences. He is the author of US Political Reporting and is working on a book about a former New York reporter.

In academia, Brian R Calfano has served as Head/Chair of the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Journalism, where he helped launch several initiatives, including a new TV news studio and a collaborative project for documentary work.
