Brian Kersten, a veterinarian born on a farm in Appleton, Wisconsin, has built a distinguished career in veterinary medicine, motivated by his early experiences with farm animals. After achieving high distinction in his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota in 1977, he set forth on a path that would lead him to become a respected figure in animal healthcare.

In 2021, he founded Mercy Veterinary Service in Baldwin, Wisconsin, a clinic that provides affordable veterinary care. This initiative is rooted in his commitment to ensure that financial difficulties do not prevent pets from receiving necessary medical treatments. At the clinic, he focuses on small animal surgery, medicine, and dentistry, demonstrating a profound dedication and expertise that has garnered respect from colleagues and clients.

Additionally, he operates as a relief veterinarian in Amery, Wisconsin. This role allows him to offer his substantial veterinary skills to various practices, helping elevate the standard of care throughout the region.

His journey in veterinary medicine began after he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. He initially practiced in a mixed animal clinic in Burlington, Wisconsin, acquiring many skills. His career path included a pivotal period from 1985 to 1987, when he engaged in humanitarian and veterinary work in Haiti, applying his expertise to support animal and community health.

After returning to the United States in 1987, he continued his practice in Baldwin and took ownership of it in 2001. He also served as the President of the Pierce St. Croix Humane Society from 2001 to 2003, showcasing his leadership and commitment to animal welfare. Following selling his practice in 2016, he devoted his efforts to opening the low-cost veterinary clinic, which commenced operations in 2021.

Beyond his clinical work, he is actively involved in philanthropic activities. He volunteers at Today's Harvest Food Shelf, working to alleviate local food shortages, and supports the international efforts of Mercy Corps. His involvement in Barefoot Crow Animal Rescue, where he provides veterinary care to rescued animals, highlights his enduring commitment to animal welfare.
