Brian McGilton
Downtown Toronto
The other day I took a walk through St. Jamestown in Toronto. My girlfriend was showing her room in attempt to sub-let it for the summer so I decided to take a walk while she was busy doing her own thing. Actually, I can't start this way, where are my manners.
My name is Brian. I am currently finishing up my third year at the Univeristy of Toronto Erindale campus. I am in an excellent major that allows me to take courses at both the Univeristy as well as at Sherian College. It's pretty much perfect for me because I'm a real art kid. I Love to draw, paint, design, pretty much anything art related. But what I really enjoy is working in mediums that I have little experience to expand my horizons. Anyways, that pretty well brings us up to right now sitting on my couch, enjoying a nice glass of tea and Breaking Bad playing on the television in front of me. So back to my story,
The weather that day was exceptionally warm considering this winter. People were out walking, the birds were chirping and I had my music blaring, loud and angry as usual. Thy Art is Murder or Lamb of God I'm sure, simply because loud angry music tends to fuel my creativity.
So anyways, I'm walking along the street and I see this piece, almost like a mural along the side of a building. I couldn't help but stop and take a look. Realizing I probably looked like a crazy person, I stood there for a couple minutes admiring it and then pulled my phone out of my pocket and took a picture. That piece is the background of this page. It is what inspired me to continue my journey. So I went out in search for more pieces. In the short time I looked I found several pieces including one that appeared to be hand painted onto an electrical box. It is a painting of Jessie from Breaking Bad. Now if you can recall from what I was saying earlier, I am watching Breaking Bad right now, so you can only imagine I'm a pretty big fan of what is possibly the greatest television show that has ever existed. This piece is displayed as my bio photo for this page.
Anyways this brings up the main purpose of creating this page and my point of all this which is to say in simplest terms that it has inspired me to pick up the paint brush again. Even more so, I may start to graffiti as a hobby on abandoned buildings. The idea of it seems very exciting, as well I could create beautiful pieces such as these two and possiby go on to inspire others same as I have been inspired.
