Brian Mullaney and his team help provide tens of thousands of free surgeries to patients spanning the world’s 70 least developed nations each year.
Mr. Mullaney had pioneering success in the high technology advertising sphere in the 1990s and leveraged his corporate experience to cofound Smile Train. He pioneered many new strategies to deliver surgeries for the poor in developing countries. At Smile Train his "teach a man to fish" strategy of empowering local surgeons instead of flying in volunteers on 2-week medical missions completely changed the cleft industry. it lowered the cost per surgery by 90% while increase the number of surgeries per year 10,000%. Over the years, Brian Mullaney has helped raise more than $1 billion to help children suffering with burns, clubfoot, blindness and clefts. His fundraising programs have earned the trust and support of more than 3 million people from 75 countries. His documentary Smile Pinki won an Oscar in 2009 and his blindness video, "Blind Sisters" went viral in 2014 and has been seen by 3+ million people.
