In 1990, Ryder founded Ryder Films, in hopes of entering the film industry. His first project was a short animated film, "Jousting Knights (1990)". The film would take a year to produce. It was a story about a Black Knight, Lord Viper, a once respected knight who is accused of treason. He is forced to face an elite group of Knights he once commanded, in a competition to the death. The short film was successful among film enthusiast but Ryder refused to release the film to the open public.

Brian Ryder then set his sights on producing his first full 3D computer animated music video, "Change Myself (1992)". The video took a little over a year to complete with it's taxing graphics to be rendered out. It was successful with graphic enthusiast and was released to the public in certain circles. He used the film to promote his skills and services to the general public.
