Brian Scriven

Mr. Brian W. Scriven is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a graduate from Bloomsburg University, PA. Mr. Scriven was a Scholar-Athlete and All State ootball Player at Bloomsburg where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business administration and a Bachelor's in Education.

Mr. Scriven started his teaching career in the Business Education Department at Woodlawn High School in 1992. He taught at Woodlawn High for six years and was the first African American Head Football Coach in the school's history.

Mr. Scriven was appointed as Principal of Woodlawn Middle School on July 1, 2004. Under the leadership of Mr. Scriven, Woodlawn Middle School had a reduction in student suspension rate by more than 50%. This drop has allowed the teachers of Woodlawn to focus on student achievement by providing students with rigorous instruction. Mr. Scriven was the first principal of Woodlawn Middle School to implement professional learning communities in order to promote collaborative environment and to implement "Best Practices".

Mr. Scriven served as Principal at Woodlawn Middle for four years and was the first Principal in Baltimore County to lead a school through Alternative Governance Restructuring Planning and Implementation.

In April of 2008, Mr. Scriven was appointed as Principal at Woodlawn High School for the upcoming 2008-2009 school year and afforded the opportunity to Facilitate Alternative Governance Implementation at the first Baltimore County High School. His vision for Woodlawn High School is to bridge the gap between school and community in a concerted effort to drive student achievement. He echoes that stakeholders must do their part and be held accountable for meeting the needs of "ALL" Woodlawn High School students. Mr. Scriven has demonstrated his passion and commitment to the Woodlawn parents, students, and community for the past four years and continuous to promote the motto, "Witness...The Change!".
