I love sports. I am not sure when I became so interested in sports. I am not even sure why I am interested in sports. I do, however, know where the love affair started.
When I was eight years old, I watched my brother play on his first basketball team. After every game his team would receive snacks from a team mom. I decided the very next season that I wanted to play basketball only so that I could receive snacks after games too! I have not stopped playing sports since.
Throughout my years in middle and high school, I played volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and softball in the spring. I put all of my energy into sports. Playing sports gave me lifelong friends and taught me important life lessons. The aspect I most loved during this time was being a part of team. The unity in victory and defeat is comparable to nothing else. Because I participated in sports, I soon became to watch all sporting events on television. That is when the love affair really began.
In the beginning, I only watched volleyball, softball, or basketball on television because these were the sports I played. I soon expanded my horizons to football, baseball, tennis, soccer, and anything else that interested me. I still have a favorite team for most leagues that I am very loyal too. It was not long before I was begging my parents to take me to basketball and football games in Atlanta. Attending those sporting events are some of my favorite memories that I will never forget.
My love of sports ultimately led me to my field of study in college: exercise and sports science. My dream of being a physical therapist for a sports team would not have been if my brother had not received snacks after basketball games. Funny how things work out.
