Hi! My name is Brittain Ross and I am a first year at UGA. I am from Memphis, Tenessee but I never liked living there very much. Even when I was younger, I would plan out the places I wanted live or visit when I was older such as California, Spain, and even Dubai. I was always jealous of my dad who got the opportunity travel to multiple countries in the Middle East and Africa for work and begged him to take me with him. I consider myself to be restless and eager for adventure, and I often wished I belonged to a family that had to move around a lot.
When I was 16, my wish somehow came true and my family suddenly moved to the Netherlands. I got to experience another culture and learn a new language, which was challenging but also fun. The best part was being able to bike everywhere- to school, to the grocery store, or to a nearby city. In addition, I had the opportunity to travel a little bit because everything was so close. I could take a train to Paris or drive to Switzerland for a day. I even fulfilled my dream of visiting Dubai with my family.
Living in a different country and being able to interact with people from many cultures helped me realize that I definitely want to work and live abroad. I’m not sure how I ended up going to school in the South, but I still enjoy being somewhere unfamiliar and new for a time. However, I’m looking forward to hopefully travel somewhere soon after COVID dies down and continue learning about different languages and cultures.
