Brittany Austin Wade is a connected and passionate educator committed to challenging the status quo in education.

In 2015, she took a leap of faith and left her position at SEHS to help launch an innovative public school. As a Lead Learner at Pike Road Schools, she has collaborated with like-minded individuals to create gold standard PBL designs for her learners in order to promote learner voice, choice, and attainment of real-world skills. She facilitated the creation of the first Student Government Association, and coached the YMCA Youth in Government program. In 2016, she was nominated for Teacher of the Year and presented on the power of social media in the classroom at EDCamp MGM. In 2017, she became an Apple Certified Teacher and is currently working on earning her Google certification. As a member of the Assessment team, she collaborated with other educators to help navigate/create the system’s assessment protocols. She worked with a team to design, test and implement the LEAD card system to promote learner ownership over their choices and positively reinforce desired behavioral outcomes. As a grade-level representative member of the Design team, she has worked with others to identify issues/provide solutions that the district incurred as they grew as a brand new school, and provide continuous input for implementing project-based learning and technology implementation. In 2017, she facilitated the creation of the TED-Ed club in hopes of providing a platform for learner directed growth and empowerment. She was chosen as the community 9 representative for the district’s inaugural TIE team (Technology Innovation Experience), a team of educators dedicated to learning technology best practices and modeling high-impact utilization and design in their classrooms.

Brittany believes that challenging the status quo in education is necessary for a multitude of reasons, and that without analysis, reflection, and clear goals for growth, change will stagnate. She believes that technology is a game changer when it comes to connecting her learners with not only resources to support their learning, but opportunities to make change, connect with others to learn about the world around them, and challenge them to change the status quo. Every learner has a talent, a potential beyond the realm of education. Her passions include kayaking, studying history, hiking, reading and connecting with others who share her vision for the future.
