Brittany Carlsen

Hello! I am double majoring in Biochemistry and Global Studies, and am also minoring in French. I am working towards going to medical school and am aspiring to become a missionary doctor. My mom shared her passion of traveling with my sister and me at a young age, and I have had the opportunity of traveling to 28 countries. At a young age, I have grown to love and appreciate the beauty that each culture has to offer, but my eyes have also been open to the reality that much of our world is poverty-stricken and many people have limited access to healthcare. I hope to one day serve in French-speaking country in Africa and help provide rural communities better access to healthcare.

With each international experience, my eyes have become increasingly opened to the issues that surround my own community. I am specifically interested in health preventative education and tackling any health related issue that affects the community.

I have been told that I have a kind and joyful heart, and a peaceful spirit about me. I have gained a strong work ethic and have learned to plan ahead and balance many things at once as a double major. In addition, I have learned to be very adaptable and culturally sensitive through my international experiences. I have also learned to remain calm during crisis events abroad and would love to share a story or two about them if you are ever interested!
