Brodrick Spencer
Southern California Director of Operations in New York, New York
I am Brodrick Spencer, an educational leader, mentor, and operations executive with nearly three decades of experience serving youth, families, and communities. My work is guided by a simple principle: all children can learn, and all communities deserve systems that allow them to thrive. I measure success by the impact and sustainability of the programs and systems I help build.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, and raised in Long Beach, California, by my mother Clara Spencer, I was instilled with the values of hard work, resilience, and accountability. Growing up in a single-parent household shaped my understanding of the challenges many young people face and inspired my lifelong commitment to service and mentorship.
As a scholar-athlete, I lettered in football, baseball, and basketball in high school, earning multiple awards and competing in all-star games. Athletics taught me discipline, teamwork, and leadership—skills that shaped my professional approach. I played collegiate baseball at Jackson State University and collegiate football at UC Santa Barbara, earning my BA in Law and Society in 1993, followed by a Master of Education from Howard University in 1996.
I began mentoring youth while still in high school and later served as a classroom teacher, coach, assistant principal, and secondary principal in urban and suburban districts. I designed and implemented programs to expand AP access, strengthen Regents-level curricula, prepare students for SAT/PSAT exams, and improve college readiness. My approach emphasizes listening, observation, accountability, and capacity-building to create systems that endure beyond my tenure.
Currently, I serve as Southern California Director of Operations for the William Law Foundation, overseeing afterschool programs, childcare centers, compliance, community partnerships, and grant development. Community engagement has always been central to my identity. I have organized voter registration drives, food and clothing drives, senior citizen and youth programs, college tours, health education initiatives, male mentorship programs, and student debate clubs. I am a 35-year member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and active in Union Baptist Church in Hempstead, NY.
I define leadership by service, strategic thinking, and the ability to build sustainable systems. I rely on data-driven decision-making, honest feedback, and collaboration to ensure measurable results. Outside of work, I enjoy board games like chess, backgammon, and dominoes, athletics such as basketball, football, and tennis, and exploring world history and politics.
At my core, I am an educator and servant leader committed to equity, access, and creating opportunities for youth and communities. I am driven by the belief that thoughtful leadership and service can transform educational experiences, expand opportunities, and help individuals and communities realize their full potential.
