I’m Kayla. My birthday is September 10, 1991. I’m 19 and currently a college student in SE Wisconsin.

From 7 to 17, I was sexually abused by my stepfather. He’s finally in jail, but this has caused a major tear in my family unit. My mom and I get along for the most part, but I feel like she always resents me for what happened. My brother and I used to be best friends up until he dropped out of college. We didn’t talk for over a year but now we are living pleasantly together and he is building a house.

Because of the abuse, I developed many mental problems. I was diagnosed with chronic insomnia and depression/anxiety/mild OCD. I was first placed on Ambien for the insomnia and started abusing it. I also started abusing alcohol. I lost a few friends because of this and am now trying to stay clean, which is hard to do in college.

I also have PCOS, a condition that causes my ovaries to not release eggs (unless I’m on birth control) and causes things like insulin problems, weight gain/trouble losing weight, acne, thin hair, etc. I’m currently on medication for this as well to try to lose the weight and gain back control of my life.
