Brooklyn Birthing Center
Brooklyn, NY
The only freestanding birthing center in metro New York, Brooklyn Birthing Center provides a home-like birthing atmosphere. Equipped with a staff of professional midwives and assistants, the center serves healthy women who present a low level risk of complications. The goal of BBC is to combine modern technology with sensitive, respectful care.
Expectant mothers can opt to deliver their babies in one of the center's calming and family friendly birthing rooms. In cases where the mothers or newborns require medical attention outside of the midwives' expertise, the patients are transferred to Maimonides Hospital, an excellent facility with a neonatal intensive care unit.
The midwives at the Center are highly trained in the field of obstetrics, and bring many years of experience from a variety of backgrounds. All hold Master's degrees in midwifery and are licensed by the state of New York.
BBC is owned by OB/GYN physicians James Ducey, M.D., Sol Neuhoff, M.D., and Norma Veridiano, M.D. They provide 24/7 coverage to the midwives for any consultations needed in regard to the status of a patient during all phases of pregnancy and labor.
Following a core philosophy that accepts the childbirth process as normal and healthy, the center believes that women have a right to be involved in their own and their babies' care. In keeping with this philosophy, BBC encourages women and their partners to educate themselves about the birthing process, and to prepare for delivery-related decisions.
Brooklyn Birthing Center regularly offers its own series of practical workshops and educational meetings. Additional information is available on BBC's website at www.brooklynbirthingcenter.com.
