Lianyungang

I am committed to the field of world language education, and I'm particularly interested in increasing adolescents' awareness of the wider world around them, both within and outside of their local communities. I believe that cross-cultural understanding is crucial in our modern, globally-interdependent world. Language learning is key to understanding other cultures, one's own language and culture, and one's place in the world.

Currently I'm teaching conversational English to middle school students in a bilingual school in Lianyungang, China. Previously I've taught English (ESL/EFL/ESOL) and Mandarin Chinese to pre-teens, teenagers, and adults in the U.S. and China. I have advanced proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and German.

In addition to language learning, I love music in just about any form. I sing in a choir (and in the shower), and I have played piano and guitar. In my lifetime I've learned to play a little (or a lot) on six additional musical instruments: trombone, flute, clarinet, Andean flute (quena), Andean panpipe (siku), Chinese erhu violin, and Chinese guzheng.

I am also an avid mindfulness/meditation practitioner. It has played a key role in my living a happy and healthy life through stress reduction and emotional balance. In the future, I would like to seek training in teaching mindfulness skills and meditation.
