Education Administration in New York
I am a graduate of George Washington University, School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) with a M.A. in Education Policy. But the institution most near and dear to my heart is Mount Holyoke College, one of the oldest Women's Colleges in the U.S. and a member of the Seven Sisters. It is also the location of the lakeside photo above.
I possess over a decade of experience within the nonprofit sector. My main interest is to improve underrepresented student access to equitable educational resources. As a graduate student, I focused on policies that impact historically marginalized student populations in grades P-20. My other strengths are in the areas of adult education learning theory, training and workshop facilitation, anti-classism and disability advocacy.
My graduate coursework included comparative analysis of K-12 public school systems across the states, the legislative impact of the ESEA, ADA, and supreme court rulings on equitable access to public schooling. In addition, I studied barriers to college access for First-Gen, low-income and BIPOC students.
Currently, I am a Program Coordinator at the NYC Department of Education in the Office of Policy and Evaluation. My team administers citywide surveys that uplift the voice of students in grades 6-12.
My part-time jobs have allowed me to engage with my passions outside of my full-time position. As a workshop facilitator with Class Action, I delivered anti-classism trainings at universities. In addition, I tutored students grades 3-12 through Paper.co where I provided virtual academic support. I am trained in pedagogical practices and instructional techniques such as scaffolding, social emotional learning, student-centered instruction and the socratic method.
Other passions of mine include Yoga, West African Dance, knitting & practicing my Spanish language skills.
