Playing chess requires thinking ten or twelve steps ahead. I had to figure out how to play chess, if I wanted to understand the Russian mind. It would be-a simple method to pass time, if nothing else. That I was told by Robert, an American living within the sam-e area as me.

Robert stared at the board. He then started laughing. Then he wished to play again. Being an excellent sport, I immediately announced my retirement like a chess player.

However, I couldnt keep my victory alone and gloated to a couple people about it. Make no mistake, Robert would defeat me a million times if we played a million games, but you need to reside in the moment!

Inside a day or two, karma hit and I started to purchase my gloating. People would begin turning up at my apartment with chessboards and, needless to say, vodka.
