My other main activity is education reform. I explain dysfunctional theories and methods used in public schools, such gimmicks as Whole Word, Reform Math, Constructivism, and dozens more. I have hundreds of articles on the Internet Or read my new book "Saving K-12 – What happened to our public schools? How do we fix them?"
The only hope for K-12 is that the public becomes more educated about what goes on in the engine room, so to speak. Understand all the lies and sophistries, and then you will be able to improve public schools. In truth, education is a lot more intellectually interesting than most people think. It's a vast, unexpected crime scene.
The sophistries that do so much to harm public school education are quite fascinating when considered as logic puzzles. They are much like chess problems: White to mate in three. The average parent doesn't have a chance. Neither does the average teacher. The Education Establishment announces each new gimmick as if it's the fulfillment of history. We hear that every idea is "research-based" (compare: "the check is in the mail"). My point is that these things are trivial little bits of hocus-pocus. I'd like to help everybody see that.
