Bruce Renton

Educator- Since the age of fourteen I have been an educator of subjects such as astronomy and geology. As a teenager, every Saturday night I loved going to the local observatory to demonstrate my home made 6 inch Newtonian reflector telescope to the general public.

Fifteen years ago I created Star School, a series of hands on programs about astronomy for elementary age children: learning the constellations by dot-to-dot games, the Turtle Moon Puzzle to discover how to tell time using the Moon and more! Today I am a Scout leader teaching outdoor skills, leadership and most importantly self-esteem and integrity.

Explorer- Getting into the out of doors on hikes and to camp, to see what is on the other side of the mountain. As a former geophysicist I have had experiences as a lunar science researcher and met astronauts and wrote a technical paper which my professor presented at the Johnson Space Center (I got to watch him).

A once in a lifetime adventure was working on the CSS Hudson, Bedford Institute of Oceanography for three months on an arctic cruise as a marine geophysicist. Our voyage took us near the top of Greenland, 800 miles from the North Pole and then into the Northwest Passage.

Expresser- I love writing in my journal everyday, taking people pictures and creating vignettes describing insights into life and story telling. Connector- My adventures now are meeting people of different cultures. It has been a long process, but I am learning Mandarin.

As a profession I am a contract business developer with clients in markets such as industrial design and software consulting for enterprise collaboration. My business network is extensive and therefore has enabled my work to thrive, be enjoyable and help others find employment.

Life is thrilling! I am a Latter-day Saint. Over the last couple of decades as a member my life has been transformed into putting others first, well at least I am a much better person!
