Buckeye International

Founded in 1844, Buckeye International, Inc. started off in Dayton, Ohio, under the name of the J.P. Davies Company. At its beginning, the J.P. Davies Company produced oils for lubrication and oil-burning lamps. After the discovery of petroleum over 40 years later, the company began manufacturing bar soap. A pioneer in the chip soap industry, J.P. Davies marketed chip soap for commercial use in 1892 and packaged the soap for household use at the turn of the 20th century. After incorporation in Ohio, the J.P. Davies Company changed names to the Davies-Young Soap Company in 1914. The Ohio state tree, the Buckeye, led to the current brand name of the company and products. In 1972, the Davies-Young Soap Company relocated its headquarters to St. Louis, Missouri, and in 1990 changed its name to Buckeye International, Inc. Today, Buckeye International has evolved from bar soap manufacturing into an innovative global production company specializing in a variety of cleaning and maintenance products used in hospitals, long-term care facilities, retail and industrial facilities, and schools.

Throughout the years, Buckeye International has patented a variety of technologies for use in the manufacture of its cleaning products. Paving the way for worker and environmental safety, Buckeye International patented Liquescent in 1975, a water-based chemical technology. Liquescent increased the cleaning products' effectiveness and its water-based technology eliminated the need for harsh chemicals, such as ammonia, butyl, solvents, and alcohol solutions. In additional to developing patented cleaning products, Buckeye International has created innovative packaging and dispensing product patents. These innovations include Action Control System II, Smart System, Smart Sac, and Action Pacs.
