Hello! I'm John Buckley and I'm an Academic Advisor in the Haslam College of Business.

I came to advising after 5 years in behavioral health, counseling, and non-profit work. During that time, I was a pre-college advisor at Upward Bound Math Science working with first generation college students during a Summer bridge program. I developed a love for advising and student engagement. My graduate work lead to publishing in NACADA's Academic Advising Today, an assistantship in student activities, and two practica in advising research, professional development, and practice. I came to UT after close to two years of work with deciding and pre-professional students at the University of Kansas where I collaborated with a team to develop a major exploration pathway program.

Academic advisors can support you to become the most successful student and human being possible! I'm excited to help you explore life and career goals, dreams for the future, and experiences that help to build self and career awareness. I also want to help you connect to learning outside the classroom through campus involvement and civic engagement.

My personal interests include hiking (the Ozarks & Rockies are my favorite so far), mindfulness, cooking, singing/guitar, staying informed of state & national politics, tiny houses, and community arts/music culture. I love all kinds of music and used to perform and organize live music events.

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler." -- Henry David Thoreau
