Bunny Liwanag is a trailblazing force in the Pinoy reggae scene, recognized as one of its rising icons. As the lead vocalist of the legendary reggae band Hemp Republic, she has been a driving influence in the genre for over two decades.
Her journey began at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), where she co-founded Hemp Republic in 2000. The band quickly gained nationwide recognition, with their 2005 album "Welcome to Hemp Republic" cementing their status as pioneers in the Filipino reggae movement.
As one of the few female reggae frontwomen of her time, Bunny Liwanag was also featured as a MYX VJ in 2006 and graced the pages of PULP Magazine in 2007. Her musical journey then took her to Paris in 2008, where she pursued an MBA at Modart International while expanding her international career, performing across France and Europe. In 2012, she released her debut solo album "Life" under Believe Digital, using her music to support street children in Tondo, Manila.
From 2018 to the present, Bunny Liwanag has performed in major concerts and festivals in the Philippines as a solo artist and as one of the vocalists for Tropical Depression and across Europe alongside OPM icons Kitchie Nadal, Stiff Lu from The Rizal Underground, and Wency Cornejo, bringing Filipino music to international audiences. Her impact on the arts was recognized in March 2023, when she was honored at the Philippine Embassy in Paris,France during International Women's Day for her contributions to music and the arts in France and across Europe.
Now based between the Philippines and France, Bunny Liwanag continues to push the boundaries of reggae music. In 2025, she reunites with Hemp Republic to release their much-anticipated new album, “The Mighty People”, marking a powerful return for the band and celebrating their 25th anniversary in the industry.
