Susan has published a book combining her grandfather's memoirs of the First World War with the history of the war where he fought. She is a researcher and organisational advisor working in the Centre for Patient Safety and Service Quality (CPSSQ) at Imperial College, London. Her work includes ‘Never’ a report for the Clinical Human Factors Group on the root causes of ‘Never Events’, also ‘The Measurement and Monitoring of Safety’, a report for the Health Foundation. She undertakes consultancy work to help organisations and their boards improve patient safety for example during hospital mergers.
