San Diego and Tijuana discusses border, trade

San Diego's City mayor Kevin Faulconer plans to make his first visit to its city counterpart in Tijuana last Friday to discuss regional economic and trade opportunities and border infrastructure.

In his first news conference as a mayor last Thursday, Faulconer said that he wants to meet Tijuana Mayor Jorge Astiazaran, some members of the city council, and its Economic Development Corporation and key business leaders of the Tijuana/Binational Community.

"I think the sky is the limit in terms of our relationship with Mexico," Faulconer said.

He wants to discuss more on the infrastructure upgrades that the U.S needed on their side of the border, that includes improvements on La Media Road, where there is congestion creates long delays at the Otay Mesa port of Entry truck crossing.

And he added that binational affairs will be added to make sure that Tijuana will be visited regularly and to make sure that the facility is used, that can be expanded soon, according to Faulconer. He said the office will "foster communication" between the two cities.

Other Topics discussed in the meeting in Tijuana are the expansion projects at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the comprehensive immigration reform, and pedestrian border access.

The CEO and the president of the San Deigo REgional Chamber of Commerce that time Mr. Jerry Sanders accompanied Faulconer to help him discuss the things that are needed that may help the two cities grow their own economy.
