Lela Buttery

Santa Monica, CA

I am a biologist, explorer, teacher and scuba instructor with a Master's in Environmental Science from Florida State University. As a former biologist for the Department of Agriculture, I became familiar with the inter-workings of environmental permitting, food testing and government regulations. It taught me to view the commercial food system critically, and to support local sustainable food ecosystems.
I have experience in full-spectrum biology, from health care to organic farming. I have a visible passion for food and a zeal for adventure. Currently, I work as a private chef and LA County scuba instructor. Clients include: Santa Monica College and The Nature Conservancy as well as Hollywood actors and directors. I'll go to great lengths to source the best quality food I can find! I like to take clients on remote adventures where they can learn to forage for their own food, understand its biology and ecology, and how to prepare into a meal. I believe that there a lot of life lessons that can be learned though observing nature!

My lifestyle brand is Buttery. Check out my eBook We Can Do Butter on Amazon and iTunes for simple basics for good healthy living, like why you need to read labels and everything you need to know to source, prep and cook your own delicious quality organic good foods.
