About BYLI
BYLI is a youth empowerment organisation that helps young people in disadvantaged communities to realise their hidden qualities and ability to become changemakers within their community. Our vision is to bring together innovation and social responsibility among young people. We create a platform of exposure to different areas in STEM, where young leaders acquire skills that they can use to solve social problems.
Our programmes
BYLI innovation challenge
The BYLI Science and Innovation challenge is a science exhibition competition that encourages high school students to identify problems within their communities and find scientific solutions. The goal of the challenge is to foster innovation and encourage young people to think creatively and innovatively. Through this project, we also help students access local and international learning opportunities where they can build their scientific and innovative skills. The winners of the competition are sponsored to attend the world-class programmes like the London Internation Youth Science Forum where they gain skills that they can use to benefit their communities.
BYLI innovation camp
The BYLI innovation camp is a residential camp in collaboration with the University of Venda for science students in grade 10s and 11. During the camp, students are exposed to different fields in STEM. They are taught to put the science they learn in the classroom into practice through our practical skills workshops. Furthermore, students are educated on the importance of global citizenship and social involvement through science. We run a workshop on the Sustainable Development Goals to equip the youth with the right mindset to start and run innovative social projects.
Young Leaders In Health
YLIH is a career development programme designed specifically for students who want to pursue careers in health sciences. The aim is to close the gaps present in the health sector by supporting more students, especially from those from disadvantaged communities, to enrol and study for careers in health.
