Music is a huge portion of my life. My involvement begins when I was only a child. My dad plays the guitar, and before I fell asleep at night, he would strum and sing me to sleep. As I grew older, I joined chorus in elementary school. The performances entailed singing and acting. I fell in love immediately. Once middle school came along, I started drifting towards band rather than chorus. Creating music gave me a greater rush than anything else I have felt. I chose to play the flute, and I continued playing the flute up until my freshman year in college. The flute was a part of my life for eight years. Band created many opportunities for me. In middle school, I played at the governor’s mansion with a couple other students. In high school, I travel my sophomore year to Hollywood to march in the Christmas parade. The band and I were in California for a week, and we saw plenty of the places that made Hollywood famous. My senior year, the band traveled to Hawaii. This trip was my favorite by far. The band and I performed on a battle ship from WWII. I hiked up volcanoes, and I stood on the windiest mountain side. Music has allowed me to grow as a person and has brought me so many opportunities.
