I'm a social worker - proud to be working hard to figure out the best way to poor people to help themselves. I believe in community organizing and a ground-up approach to solving the world's problems. I've worked throughout Latin America, in microfinance, conflict resolution, and policy reform. But the single most transformative thing I did to contribute to help the poor was to raise awareness and funds in order to create a fish farm in a rural Guatemalan community. The villagers were trained with new skills, and the fish farm created jobs, provided a nutritious source of food to the community, and enhanced their standing in political circles. After seeing first hand what jobs and food can do to empower a community, I'm so excited to be supporting The Adventure Project in their fight against rural hunger. They are helping small farmers through the innovative and low cost solution of a Kickstart irrigation pump. These pumps are giving people in Africa the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty, send their kids to school, and change their lives. I'm 1 of 1000 who are turning their about.me into about so-much-more.
