"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." - John F. Kennedy

It is one of life’s truisms is that if you can’t throw and catch a ball, you probably won’t enjoy activities or sports that require those two skills. My beliefs and goals for my physical education classes reflect the individual differences of each and every one of my students. The ultimate goal of my program is to provide my students, of all ability levels, with a positive learning experience that eventually will result in the ideal development and achievement of content standards including health, wellness, and movement concepts.

Within my curriculum, the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction is of much importance. If children do not enjoy the activities they are being exposed to in physical education, it is not likely for them to continue participation outside of class. I am setting out to create and encourage life-long movers out of each and every one of my students. I value my students’ voices, and encourage them to take a more active role in my class. I believe that implementing games and activities that students enjoy, have a say in, or have access to in the community will also aid and encourage further participation.

My intentions are that every student is actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences with their peers. My hope is that each day my students leave class with an increased motivation to participate in habitual physical activity, and an increased competence and feeling of self-worth, all of which are associated with mental and physical health benefits. In addition, if I can draw attention to the outstanding accomplishments my students are capable of in the form of sport and recreation, I have achieved one of my life’s goals.
