Caitlin Holton
Writer and Volunteer in Windsor, New York
Caitlin Holton is a graduate of Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing. Caitlin also studied Anthropology/Sociology and Arts Management while completing her undergraduate degree. Most recently, Caitlin graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a MSc in Book History and Material Culture.
On the RWU campus, Caitlin held the position of Secretary for the Musicians' Guild as well as Tour Guide and Admission Assistant for RWU's Admission department. She also worked as a research assistant for the Anthropology department and was an active member of the Scholars at Risk Network group run through the school. This group is involved in advocating for freedom in the cases of wrongly imprisoned scholars from all corners of the world. Opportunities as such have shaped Caitlin's academic and professional pursuits.
Her Sophomore year, Caitlin studied in Limerick, Ireland at the University of Limerick where she made some amazing domestic as well as international connections and life-long friends. Her creative works are significantly influenced by this time spent abroad. She also had the opportunity to study in Perugia, Italy with a group of Roger Williams students. This short-term adventure exposed her to the beauty of ancient artifacts and public history. Education through travel and exploration has become important to her college experience.
In Edinburgh, Caitlin worked part-time in a fast-paced and always engaging hostel where she met many lovely travelers like herself. She also volunteered and later worked under a placement at the University of Edinburgh's Digital Imaging Unit in the Centre for Research Collections. She was mainly responsible for the creation of consistent metadata for the Image Collections but also worked cropping images for the creation of e-books. Her favorite parts of Edinburgh though are the friends she made and the lovely city itself that always seemed to grow and also shrink with each passing day.
Caitlin hopes to one day be a published author and own a bookstore, but her career goals are more focused on the management of arts, especially those which are literary, and work in the museum field. Working as or under a curator at an arts museum, with rare collections and manuscripts or with study abroad students would be ideal for Caitlin in the future. Anything that puts her in contact with diverse travelers is also a plus. Maybe a traveling bookstore museum?
