Dr Cai Wilkinson

Cai is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Deakin University, Australia, as well as Associate Head of School (International) for the School of Humanities and Social Sciencesand Course Director for the Bachelor of International Studies.

Formerly a Lecturer in Russian at the University of Birmingham in the UK, Cai's research focuses on societal security with a particular focus on genders, sexualities and LGBTQ rights.

She recently co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Human Rights on resistance to LGBT rights, and is currently working on a book project examining the domestic and international politics of LGBT human rights claims in the post-Soviet space

She is a former Chair of the International Studies Association’s LGBTQA Caucus and has previously published in Security Dialogue (where her article is amongst the top ten most cited articles) Central Asian Survey, Europe-Asia Studies and Nationalities Papers, as well as writing book chapters on a range of topics including interpretive ethnographic methods, securitization, statebuilding in Central Asia, and LGBT rights in Kyrgyzstan.
