Caleb Payne
Attorney in Maitland, Florida
A native Floridian, Caleb Payne pays special attention to detail to ensure that his clients and their claims are properly guided through litigation.
Mr. Payne handles property claims caused by water and flood damage, fire, smoke, windstorm, hurricane, hail, collapse, and mold. Mr. Payne also handles personal injury and workers compensation claims.
“Often times, insurance companies refuse to cover claims for emergency services, for one reason or another. They hide behind vague language in policies, which can change every year upon renewal. Or, they only want to cover someof the claim, leaving the homeowner or remediation specialist on the hook for the remainder. Insurance companies want to place more requirements on homeowners, while providing less coverage, if at all. It is unfortunate that they often don’t respect the rights of the insured until after a lawsuit has been filed.
Just as homeowners have duties under the policy, insurance companies must satisfy contractual obligations and provide coverage for losses under the policy. Bringing in a consultant, who says a loss is not covered, or an estimate is too high, and summarily basing a coverage decision based upon just that estimate, while refusing to negotiate or even speak with the emergency remediation service provider is not good business; rather, it is in a breach of contract under the policy. I take pride in fighting on behalf of homeowners and remediation businesses to get them money they are owed.”
Mr. Payne interned with the firm in 2012, under his friend, mentor and now colleague, Paul Zeniewicz. He joined the firm full time in August of 2014, and focuses primarily on property claims at Cohen Grossman.
Mr. Payne is dedicated to community service, and has volunteered thousands of hours throughout his life. He participated in a prestigious spinal injury internship program at the James A. Haley V. A. Hospital, where he was named outstanding intern. Some of the other organizations and associations include: Election Protection, Habitat for Humanity, The Spring, Metropolitan Ministries, and iDignity.
Mr. Payne has coached Pop Warner football, and loves to cheer for the Noles on Fall Saturdays.
