Six-Word Memoir:

Passing on the gift of knowledge.

I discovered my passion for teaching through music. I am grateful for my parents enrolling me in music at a young age, which made me develop many qualities I apply to my teaching practice. Music has so many beneficial qualities for learning, development, cognitive function and motor skills. There is extensive research proving learning an instrument activates all areas of the brain. This increases cognitive function and results in positive effects for learning, memory, motor skills, etc. Learning an instrument requires discipline and patience, which are two important qualities I apply in my teaching practice. I believe teachers must develop discipline in their students because it helps learn independent skills, increases focus and helps them stay organized. Teachers also need to be patient with their students. Not all students learn in the same manner, therefore teachers must use various techniques to find out what works and doesn’t work for their students. Being patient will also make students feel comfortable because they will not feel pressured or anxious to get a wrong answer or ask questions for clarification. These are the qualities I find most important in my teaching philosophy.
