Calvin Boender currently serves as president and chief executive officer of North Development, Ltd., a construction firm he started nearly immediately after graduating from college. Originally, Cal Boender named the firm C & D Construction Company, which offered specialized services to Fortune 500 companies, engineering and installing modular office systems and computer operations facilities. Calvin Boender moved the firm to the Chicago area in 1980 and changed the name to North Development in 1986. Around that time, the company started investing in residential projects in Chicago neighborhoods and eventually started purchasing urban industrial buildings. Today, the company manages a diversified portfolio that includes agricultural and parking properties.

Despite the constantly changing economy, Calvin Boender has kept his business in operation for nearly 35 years, relying on keen business sense and effective managerial skills to keep his company profitable. He has developed a number of business skills, including strategic thinking, problem solving, business management, and employee development and training.
