My music has been described by critics as, 'brim full of energy and drama' and possessed of 'exuberant pulsating rhythms' . I was thrilled when one of my pieces The Secret of the Universe won a prestigious British Composer Award and other works have featured at the Venice Biennale, Turin Festival, BBC Proms and Britt Festival, Oregon. I've had pieces performed by many diverse ensembles, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Joanna MacGregor, Ensemble Bash, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Camerata Ducale and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and had a fruitful long-term collaboration as Associate Composer of the professional choral group, Singscape. I'm a passionate advocate of cross-disciplinary collaboration and worked with scientists on a commission for the Creating Sparks Festival and was awarded an International Fellowship of the Arts Council to support my Artist in Residence at Cittadellarte, where I produced works in association with visual artists that have been exhibited throughout Europe. I've also directed collaborations between the Tate Gallery and Royal National Theatre, as well as directing Summer Schools for the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music. As a conductor I've appeared with many orchestras and ensembles both here and abroad, including Joanna MacGregor's critically acclaimed album Neural Circuits, featuring the music of Nitin Sawhney, which I also conducted at the BBC Proms.
