Student in Athens, Georgia
Growing up in Rome, Georgia wasn’t always the most entertaining place. My parents encouraged me to try out for sports in middle school, but being 4’10 while all of my classmates were a foot taller than me didn’t help my chances of making any teams. I tried out for volleyball and was immediately cut because I was too scared to run to the ball. I tried out for basketball but didn’t even bother showing up the next day because I was terrified of the girls I was competing against. But then it hit me. I could run cross country. So in seventh grade I began to run cross country and absolutely loved it. I continued to run all the way through senior year. It became a hobby of mine and helped kill time when I was bored. When I was feeling stressed or nervous, running became my go-to. Something else that I like to do is travel. As i’ve grown up, my parents have been generous enough to take me on trips with them and it soon became something I continuously looked forward to. Even if it’s just a weekend trip an hour from home, I love to explore new places. I feel that it is important to travel and get to see the world that we live in. It is really amazing to see cultures different than ours and how other people live and survive.
