Camilo Flora Matsumbo is an economist, researcher, writer, public commentator and emerging African leader whose work explores economics, public finance, development, governance, leadership and social transformation.

He works across economic research, analysis, project planning and capacity building. He serves as Coordinator of the Public Finance and Economic Development Unit at EconLab Training and Research and as Director of the Department of Projects and Planning at the Africa Union Student Platform, Mozambique.

Camilo has participated in the Aspire Leaders Program, a global leadership development programme founded at Harvard University and now delivered by the independent Aspire Institute. The programme brings together emerging leaders from around the world and provides leadership development, professional training and access to a global community.

His research interests include public debt management, exchange rate dynamics, financial systems, economic policy, governance, regional integration and the relationship between economic conditions and social development. His work seeks to make complex economic and social issues accessible while contributing to informed public dialogue.

Beyond research, Camilo develops written and public work through articles, opinion pieces, educational content, media commentary and leadership initiatives. He is an analyst and contributing writer at The Geopolitical Economist, an independent international publication focused on geopolitics and the world economy, where he writes on Mozambique, Africa and economic and strategic affairs. His article on Mozambique’s mining law inaugurated the publication’s new Africa section. He has also contributed to national newspapers and platforms, expanding public discussion on economic and development issues.

He has undertaken international training and professional development in areas including human rights, public governance, field research, social and solidarity economy, project management, community engagement and sustainable development.

His broader ambition is to contribute to African and international discussions through research, economic analysis, public communication, leadership and collaboration, connecting knowledge, institutions and communities.
