The Pests That Are Putting Canadian Home Owners Health and Safety at Risk

Some Canadians are not getting the comfort they deserve in their own home because of the following unwelcome invaders.

Ants

Ants can be everywhere, but they are mostly encouraged in places where sweets, nuts, fruits and other insects are present. They are easily identifiable by their segmented body. The typical color is black-brown and they have 6 legs, 3 on each side. Their ability to sting or bite is what makes them an irritating pest worth getting rid of.

Bed bugs

Obviously, these insects like the areas of the house where their hosts could be stationary at times, so they could launch their attack, like the beds in the bed room or the sofa in the living room. Bed bugs can be identified by their reddish brown body that is oval and somewhat flat. Their favorite food? Nothing else, but the human blood.

Birds

Birds should be pets, not pests, right? Well, some are really nasty pests. These could be any birds in the wild or wandering around, like Pigeons and Canada geese. They like to station in house roofs and eaves. Presence of grains, small insects and others would invite them. Because they can transmit H1N1 or any other serious bird viruses, you want to keep them away.

Bees and wasps

I, for one, don’t like to be stung by any of these flying insects. It simply hurts and the spectacle of the venomous sting can be ugly. You’ll know it’s any of them when you notice a thick flying thing in brown, yellow, black stripes accompanied by a distinct buzzing sound. While they are mainly attracted to nectar and pollen, they can station around garbage cans for sweets. Allergic reaction to their sting is one of the many reasons why you want to control their presence.

Fleas

Here is another bloodsucker unique by its long and narrow claws. These red-brown insects like to station in the hair or fur of either animals or humans. The bite of this 1/8 inch long insect could cause allergic response. They are simply bothersome and can seriously irritate their hosts. But the main reason why you want to keep them out, if not completely exterminate, is that they can transmit typhus.

Rats and mice

While entertainment is making you think these are charming and harmless little creatures, they are not or at least the pest variety. The big ones are rats, the small ones are mice. Both are equally dangerous. They go and live where people are, mostly because of the garbage people generate in each passing day. They eat mostly any
