Hi! My name is Matthew Canaran, but you can call me Matt. I'm a user experience designer for maps and mobile apps. Before beginning a design project, I ask myself the following questions:
Who is the audience?
What message am I trying to convey?
What will the audience do with this information?
What does the audience already know about the message?
Are there existing ideas similar to the one that I'm trying to convey?
These five questions help me understand both the audience and the context. A message better resonates with an audience if the information is tailored to their interests, and if it builds on a concept that they already understand.
In December 2014, my research residency with Metrolinx will come to a close. I'm looking for new and exciting opportunities related to civic policy, cartography and/or wayfinding.
