“You’ve got this!” Since the beginning of this educational journey, friends and family have reminded me of strength I never knew I had. My name is Candace Williams. I am a psychology major at North Carolina Central University. I graduated from Randolph Community College this summer with an Associate of Arts Degree. My plan has always been to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker after obtaining a Master’s Degree in social work. I am not a traditional student. This time around is a lot different. From Highschool. I enrolled at Bennett College for Women, an amazing college that supported and encouraged sisterhood. Unfortunately, I was not equipped with the things I needed to successfully graduate. Here we are 14 years, 2 adopted children and a foster child later, and I’m working harder than ever for myself as well as the little people that are watching. During this course I hope to gain confidence and overcome anxiety while engaged in public speaking. I hope to obtain the knowledge needed to create well thought out presentations and connect with others who share this common goal. My degrees are completely out of range with my current career path, and at this point I am pursuing the dream I’ve always had to serve the mental health population as well as promoting community health and providing people with the information and resources they need to live mentally healthy lifestyles.
