Candice Morton
educator in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
I am an educator, mother and holistic health enthusiast.
I have completed a Master of Teaching specializing in the Primary/Junior division at The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. The joy I feel while teaching is only surpassed by the feeling of awe in response to my students' ability to continually teach and inspire me- that paradoxal element of teaching that is often overlooked.
I currently provide one-on-one tutoring on a weekly basis. Tailoring activities and lessons to a child's individual and unique learning style is so rewarding and exciting! I have my Special Education Qualification Part 1 and am especially humbled when working with students on IEP's. It is extremely important to me that every child knows that their style of learning should be celebrated as it is unique and special. My students range from Kindergarten to Grade 6 and our sessions usually focus on Mathematics and/or Language activities.
I have also been supply teaching for several years in private schools across Etobicoke and Mississauga. Supply teaching enriches my days and serves as an important tool for further developing my teaching practice.
While completing my graduate course work I worked at a local wellness clinic where I was immersed in the world of holistic health and wellness-a world that has truly become my own! I believe that critical health literacy is paramount in the classroom especially in the primary years. This topic inspired my graduate research! Our children have the opportunity to become advocates for their own health as they grow up in a changing world with new information and frameworks for understanding wellness.
When I am not working I am with my 3 little loves-a 4 year old daughter, 2 year old son and 6 month old son. The love they have for each other and the world around them is my inspiration each day. As my husband and I navigate our new chapter as parents to 3, we are reminded of what it truly means to be a life-long learner! We especially enjoy learning together and nurturing our curious children's interests. We love spending time in the outdoors together whether it be family hikes, river floating, trips to the farm or camping! I love interior design and am often re-arranging our living space or dreaming of new ways to change it!
I hope to bring these important elements of my life to the children I meet along my teaching journey. I want to create a space that is just as engaging and inspiring as the learning adventures that take place within it.
