Jim Cannon
Born in Sumter South Carolina June 9, 1949. I was one of eight children. When I was 7 years old I was put up for adoption and adopted by Hardy and Sarah Cannon in San Antonio Texas. My name was James Henry Tibbs before I was adopted. I went to Morrill Ward Elementary starting the 4th grade. I went from there to Harlandale Jr. High. I played football in the 7th and 8th Grade. I then went to Harlandale High School and played football in 9th, 10th and 11th grades. Between the summer of 11th and 12th grades the doctors told me I had something wrong with my back and I shouldnt play football. I graduated from Harlandale High School in 1967. The last 3 months of High School I ran away from home and lived in a motel by my self. I went to School and finished and graduated. I worked at Griffs Hambergers and supported myself. My parents never came and tried to get me to come home. In the summer after High School I moved to Charleston South Carolina with my sister Barbara. I got a job a Mobil Chemical and worked there for one and a half years. My parents forwarded my Draft Notice to me in December 1968. As soon as I got the notice I went and joined the Air Force.
