CAQ Pittsburgh
Bridgeville, PA
It's got flips. It's got headstands and handstands. It's got music and dance. And while that's all happening, it's got people getting kicked in the face. Welcome to capoeira.
Capoeira is a martial art developed by African slaves in Brazil. It integrates elements of acrobatics, music, and dance so that the slaves could practice and hide the martial aspect from their masters. All of these elements are strong in capoeira today.
With capoeira you'll find what you'd might expect from other martial arts--self-defense, fitness, and learning discipline and long-term gratification. But you'll also find a whole lot more. For us, it's not necessarily about doing a few kicks and drills and calling it a day. We don't fight capoeira; we play. You'll find an amazing sense of community here. There are no competitions--we go to events together, meet and play with other capoeiristas in our group and others, and love to have a good time. You'll find that everyone's here to help each other improve and have fun.
How does a martial art have people kicking each other while maintaining a strong sense of community? You'll have to drop in and find out for yourself!
There are several capoeira groups around Pittsburgh; ours is Capoeira Angola Qunital. Email us with any questions--anything from the art itself to class info--and we'll show you what our community's all about.
We train at Bridgeville's PRO Martial Arts at the address below.
