Cara is Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) specialising in the treatment of sex addiction, compulsive sexual behaviour, and trauma. She completed her CSAT training in the United States under the tutelage of leading experts in the field, Patrick Carnes and Kenneth Adams.
Cara Crossan is a Hazelden-trained and qualified addiction therapist, consultant, and clinical supervisor, holding a Master’s degree (MSc) in Addiction Psychology and Counselling. With over 25 years of experience in the field of addiction and recovery, Cara has worked extensively with individuals, couples, and families affected by both substance use disorders and process addictions.
In addition to her CSAT training, Cara is APSATS trained (Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists), supporting partners experiencing betrayal trauma. She has also completed Brainspotting training Phases 1, 2, 3, and 4, allowing her to work deeply with trauma held in the nervous system and to support clients in processing underlying emotional and relational wounds connected to addiction.
Throughout her career, Cara has worked across both private and charitable sectors, developing and delivering addiction treatment programmes and professional training. Her experience spans a wide range of settings including criminal justice systems, healthcare services, rehabilitation centres, and community treatment programmes across Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia.
Cara is the founder of Cross Addictions, a specialist counselling service providing therapy for individuals and couples affected by addiction and relational betrayal trauma. The service operates from offices in Melbourne and Sydney, with additional availability for online therapy sessions.
Cara’s work integrates trauma-informed therapy, recovery-based models, and relational approaches to support long-term behavioural change, accountability, and healing.
