About me?

For those of you who don't know me already, my name is Cari and I'm from Los Angeles. I'm a recovering academic with a few degrees in anthropology with a focus on archaeology. I studied the role of religion in society building and as a result, have an incredible love of religious architecture. My life in academia may be over, but my subject matter is still a passion and it influences much of my life and thus, my photography.

Because life has a weird sense of humor, I no longer live in sunny California. I somehow managed to marry a Scottish doctor, which meant giving up my life in L.A to move to the UK. . We have children, of the four legged variety: a dog named Hamish and two cats named Flea and Cali. You will find many photos of them in my work.

I have always had a passion for photography. When I moved to Scotland I found I had 24 hours of every day to fill so I took up the hobby once again, in earnest. I love photography, it allows me to create moods even though photos are static. I'm not a business at this point, but perhaps one day when my skills improve I'll consider the option. Photography is my hobby and passion and I practice my art daily, always looking for ideas and trying to improve my technique and style.

My background?

As mentioned, once upon a time, I was an academic and archaeologist which is where I became obsessed with photography. But, things change... Currently, I would describe myself as something of a bored housewife, very much used to her former life working long hours and a good salary, but now unemployed and looking to find her niche in a new country. I've still got an academic's mind and rock and roll chick's attitude. I'm fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth so now days you're likely to find me walking the Scottish countryside, with camera and dog, in my wellies, and a warm coat. It's a long way from stiletto heeled, strappy sandals and sunshine, but I absolutely love it!

My photography "project" is called Captured Soul Images. Feel free to check out some of my work, https://www.facebook.com/CapturedSoulImages - keep in mind my training is a work in progress and some photos are really awful. But it's a process.

My favorite subjects include natural landscapes, animals of all kinds, religious and historic architecture and grave yards.
