Carin Marais, a qualified language practitioner (BA Language Practitioner, BA Hons Applied Linguistics, MA Afrikaans), has worked for Media24, Ipsos and Rubric, and is currently working as a senior copywriter and translator at Caxton Magazines. She is also the SASMARS communications liaison, website manager, and Facebook Page manager.
At Caxton Magazines Carin has the privilege to write print, digital, and social media copy for local and international clients. The subjects range from finance to parenting, fashion, health, and much more. She writes in both English and Afrikaans and can also translate English/Afrikaans and Afrikaans/English.
At Ipsos, Carin translated and proofread physical and telephonic questionnaires, press releases, and presentations. While working for Rubric, she translated a number of South African school textbooks (grade 1 to 4).
Carin was also part of the Media24 Lifestyle Weeklies advertising team for 8 years. Her responsibilities include the translation, proofreading, and editing of advertisements, various presentations and other general documents. She was also responsible for the Buyers’ Guide section of the Huisgenoot, YOU, and DRUM magazines.
Her interests include the changing media landscape, art, culture, literature and linguistics, archaeology, mythology and folklore, and pop culture. She has a keen interest in the speculative fiction genre and a number of her speculative fiction short stories have been published.
