Carla Meli

I am Carla, an English Spanish translator from Argentina who decided to study abroad in the U.S. This blog is the place where I share some of the feelings that this experience is provoking on me. Although it is hard to record every situation that I would like to, I am very glad to put into words several moments of this trip. Since I wanted to improve my English skills, I applied for a scholarship offered by a college that is 12.000 km away from home. Dickinson college is now a reality in my life, and here I am, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. I think that going away from our place for a considerable amount of time helps us to gain a different perspective in several personal and professional aspects. You grow as a professional when you are studying to improve your skills, but you also grow as a person. Sharing time with people from all over the world, having the opportunity to take interesting classes and teaching my own language have helped to know myself better. Every day spent here always leaves me something new. I miss home, I miss my family, my friends and my places, but it is very rewarding to know that everybody and everything will be just where I left it. What I have read about the ‘going out of the comfort zone’ is what I am going through right now. And it feels great! When you dare to do this, the ‘comfort zone’ is no longer a cliché, but a place to abandon every time we consider necessary to breath fresh air and build our life with amazing experiences.
