Carl Stewart Byington is the recipient of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from George Washington University, Carl Byington began his career as a Rocket Scientist at the NASA Langley Research Center. He then worked as a Research Engineer in Underwater Vehicle Power and Mechanical Systems, where he spent four years supporting power generation cycles by developing fluid-moving, mechanical, and thermal components from chemical sources.
Carl Byington spent the following six years as Department Head of Condition-based Maintenance at the Penn State Applied Research Laboratory. Here, he oversaw the machinery diagnostics and prognostics research activity of more than 20 engineers, students, and assistants. He also served as Principal Investigator on multiple programs.
In the following decade, as Director of Systems Engineering at Impact Technologies, LLC, Mr. Byington led the development of health monitoring systems and smart sensors for use by branches of the US military. In this capacity, he served as Principal Investigator on several multi-million dollar programs. He later served as PHM analytics and CBM+ Chief Engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft. Carl has been Owner and President of PHM Design in Ellijay, Georgia, since 2017.
