Carl Rheuban

Carl Rheuban is chief operating officer of KeyFlame Energy Advisers. KeyFlame is a leading advisory firm on torrefaction processing, biogas and biofuels. Mr. Rheuban is a technology and project development consultant on a multitude of torrefaction process plants throughout the world in various stages of planning, development, fabrication and installation. Torrefaction is a process to convert wood and other biomass materials into torrefied pellets that are a clean renewable fuel with low ash and low sulfur that is used to replace coal at coal fired power plants. Keyflame also consults extensively on syngas and biofuels including the use of torrefaction as a siginificant pre-treatment for the processing of syngas and biofuels.

Carl Rheuban possesses over 40 years experience in the private sector. Carl Rheuban developed his experience in the real estate industry working as the General Partner and Chief Financial Officer of De Anza Properties, where he procured and developed luxury water oriented manufactured housing retirement projects with over 10,000 homes.

In addition to renewable energy and real estate, Mr. Carl Rheuban is also an accomplished attorney, educator, author, and financier. Carl Rheuban founded Conventional Mortgage Corporation (Connie Mac), which became the first company in history to pool mortgages purchased from banks and savings & loans into mortgage-backed securities. Mr. Rheuban also cultivated sharp public policy experience while drafting the California Limited Partnership Act at the request of the California Bar Association.

As an attorney, Mr. Carl Rheuban dedicated himself to rectifying the wrongful conviction and incarceration of Clarence Chance. Following his conviction, Mr. Chance had been a prisoner for over 17 years. Carl Rheuban worked tirelessly to see that justice was delivered, and Clarence Chance was awarded a $5 million personal injury settlement, the largest awarded by the City of Los Angeles at that time. A man of ideas and intellectual curiosity, Carl Rheuban excelled as a Law Professor at the Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, California. For four years, he challenged and motivated his students and engendered critical thinking in future lawyers.
